Are you doing Journal Your Christmas with Shimelle or perhaps a December Daily album with Ali E? This year I am going to try a combination really. Taking from the prompts and doing my own thing. It may be 25 days. It may go through to the new year. Who knows?
Not putting any pressure on myself to get this done. 🙂 I do like looking back on my big JYC completed album from 2008 . Not to mention need to finish 2009.
But this month calls!
Just going to take my photo’s, do some journaling and print out some digi pages. Perhaps adding some embellies as I go along. Simple pages in a 5 x 7 format so I can print two on a letter size paper from Red River Paper and then make my own cover. The plan is for one page to be the scrapbook page with some handwritten journaling on it. The other side of the 2 page opening will be a photo for the day.
Sweet and simple. We’ll see??
Speaking of sweet, today was my youngest daughters birthday. So obviously that is the focus for today. This layout is showing both pages on a background. Once printed out I will add the journaling.
Happy Birthday Sweetheart!

Last year I attended the Shimelle Journal Your Christmas class for the first time. I enjoyed the process – though I probably bit off more than I could chew – making it too big, and time consuming
Given the way I feel right now, so totally not into the whole Christmas thing, I was not even sure that attempting it this year is the right thing to do.
But – yes there is always a but!! 🙂
I know that I will be disappointed in myself in the future if I don’t at least have a go at it. So with that in mind I pulled out last years album.
The munchkins begged to have a look as soon as they saw it. Pretty hard to miss with that bright red cover!
They sat in the lounge for quite a while, really enjoying the experience of looking through the album. After all the oohing and ahhhing it was decided there and then. It really did need an attempt. Seeing them enjoying reading about the past, laughing over their photo’s from last year and commenting about how everyone had grown and changed, how could I not?
Hopefully I can do it justice. Even if I am not feeling it, this time is a season in our lives and needs to be recorded – the good, the bad and everything in between.
Today’s prompt is a letter to santa. Now ordinarily I wouldn’t worry too much about this prompt as he is not the focus for our family. However since today is my daughters birthday I needed to do something quick. Shimelle had included a link to a site for ‘Mummy’ santa letters. You’ll see why when you read it.
You have to fill in some word prompts then it writes a funny letter to santa from you.
Here is my ‘santa letter’.
The text reads:
I have been a good Girl.
It really wasn’t my fault what happened at Wayne’s Christmas party. It was Linda who spiked the punch with too much Lemon Lime & Bitters. I can’t help it if I drank 14 glasses. It was so good—smelled and tasted just like Lavender.
I thought it was funny when I put Sandra’s Scarf on my head and danced the Jive on the Shabby Chic couch while singing `Highway to the Danger Zone’. I didn’t mean to break Wayne’s IPod and don’t know why Wayne would sue me for jealousy.
I don’t remember calling Laurie’s wife a beautiful horse—even though she looked like one with pink eye shadow and purple lipstick!
And when I threw up on Natalie’s husband’s arm, it was only because I ate too much of that roast lamb.
After all that fun, I admit I was a little tired. So I fell asleep on my way home and drove my BMW x5 through my neighbor’s parlour. I don’t think that was any reason for my neighbor to call me a stunning toy poodle and have me arrested for sneaking out!
So, Santa…here I sit in my jail cell on Christmas Eve, all weary and worn out. And I’m really not to blame for any of this confident stuff. Please bring me what I want the most—bail money!
Sincerely and lovely yours,
Me (Really a very nice Girl!)
P.S. It’s only 14 bucks!
What a hoot! The postcard is by LaWanna Desjardin. I made the stamp over the top of the original and used Kate Hadfield’s Nativity Doodles.
Dreaming of a White Christmas. At least that is what today’s prompt from Shimelle made me think about. One day hopefully we will get to experience that side of the world and the beauty of a white Christmas.
For now I enjoy the part of the Northern Hemisphere that we currently reside in. After all the hot summers in Australia, with the BBQ or picnic type meal on Christmas day, it is lovely to be somewhere cooler.
That’s what I have written about for day two’s entry in my journal. I took a screen shot of the weather and made myself a ‘cool’ looking layout. Complete with snowflakes which were also a part of today’s prompt. We had fun playing with a digital snowflake maker. Those things can get seriously addictive. Keep the screen out of site if you have any munchkins too or else they will be lined up waiting to have a go as well.
How do I know that? 🙂
This week I plan to work snowflake making into the homeschool day. Maybe for science. We may even make some out of borax if I can find it at the local supermarket. We’ll get out the paper and scissors and have some hybrid fun. Then We’ll cover them in clear contact and add them to the journal.
I have discovered one issue with making my tags all the same colour. As I am not planning the album to be the same kit or colour all the way through it is possible that the tags won’t suit the layout. I may have to rethink the daily numbering.
This page is 8 x 8 and already I didn’t want to add the tag to the page so will perhaps make another laminated one and attach it in the journal above this page. Or make a matching tag along the lines of the original but change the colours.
I have used kits by the Bisontine, Julie Bullock, Jofia Devoe, and Kasia. All available at Shabby Pickle Designs.
This class started yesterday. What with all the birthday goings on around here I am a day behind. Day one is a manifesto journaling about committing to the daily effort and why I am doing it. After altering the words to be more personal I added them into a layout.
I have used kits by LaWanna Desjardin, Bisontine, Laura Decetis, Catherine Designs and Bren Boone. Credits here. The template is from the Cookies for Kids daily templates from Sweet Shoppe Designs.
Tomorrow I will hopefully get day two done before day three comes into my inbox. Just one advantage to being ahead in time zones.
I had a sneak peak at day two of Journal Your Christmas – and it’s talking about the weather and making snowflakes. Which is perfect. Today, at one of the seasonal bazaar’s that I work at with a craft stall, I purchased two snowflakes decorations to hang in my craft zone. These are made locally by a lady and are perfect. Shabby and pink. They are so cute they might just stay up all year round.
I did it!
Signed up for Shimmel’s Journal Your Christmas.
Almost didn’t as things can get way too busy in December. Deciding to do it mostly digi with a touch of hybrid made up my mind. I would love to do it fully paper. Maybe next year. One of the great things about this class is once you have joined you can do it every year.
So this year I will enjoy the process, do it in photoshop cs3 and learn what it is all about. Then next year knowing the process I can perhaps do it fully hands on.
Today I designed the daily date tags to go on each page. This will pull it all together, giving continuity to the project.
